They know the subtle craft of fried seafood...It's not as simple as you may think to get it just right.

Another terrific dining experience at Periwinkles. Had a late dinner on the bar side. Very intimate with the piano playing and soft lighting along with great service and excellent food. I highly recommend Periwinkles!

It was early Saturday afternoon during the recent rain storms...we were greeted warmly and made to feel welcome. The food was delicious. We ordered the best crab cake ever, award-winning clam chowder, and the steamed mussels - all tremendous selections - and the Bloody Marys and Marias were reminiscent of New Orleans.

I ordered the Ipswich clams, and frankly, they were among the very best I have ever had. I ordered them based on the waitress saying that people often rave about them. That was all I had to hear. The batter was light and golden, enhancing the taste of the remarkably fresh clams. They were not the crispy type, but instead were the kind that melted in my mouth with the most wonderful, mild, sweet flavor. The order was of a decent size...eating these clams was pure ecstasy. The veggies were fresh and served al dente, the way I personally like them.

I had one of the daily specials, including Chicken Curry Soup, which was delicious. We specifically came back to Periwinkles because of the wonderful homemade soups. My husband had fried clams which were perfectly cooked - the batter coating was excellent.

Periwinkles is a great local haunt. The food and service are always top notch.

Lovely waterfront property in an old shipbuilding area. Saw a maiden launch of a beautiful sloop. Visiting from Florida and craving lobster. I got one of the last two. Good size portions and delicious food. Would highly recommend.

Periwinkles food is excellent, as is the ambiance, with great views through many windows of the the water and bustling boat activity.

My husband and I both had the baked haddock. The fish was fresh, very tasty and was presented quite nicely on the plate. The server was very pleasant. We will be back.

The meals were great, service good and all around a good experience.

The clam chowder is still the best around!

Excellent setting with beautiful views from the rear deck seating. Food quality was much better than expected, particularly for a summer tourist area. Cornflake breaded cod was excellent, lightly crunchy crust with perfectly moist, flavorful fish. Fried clams also clean, crisp, and flavorful. Service was friendly and professional - the waitress even brought us a bag of ice for fresh clams that we purchased from a local clammer. Of the restaurants along the Essex causeway, I recommend Periwinkles above the others.
